Hi, my name is Emma Allen. I'm a English masters student, studying Old/Medieval literature. I have my BA in English and History.

Hi! I look forward to working with you at any stage in your project. I particularly enjoy helping writers brainstorm new ideas.

I'm at UAF to pursue an MA/MFA in fiction and I'm teaching Writing 111X this semester. I spent the last nine years writing ads for pharmaceuticals and med devices. I'm happy to help out with any kind of writing, but I think I'd be particularly helpful if you want to discuss cover letters and resumes, along with creative writing assignments and literature papers. (If you are one of my students, please try to book a different tutor at the writing center!)

I'm a creative nonfiction writer (in the 3rd year of my MFA), dog mom, and big fan of all things cozy. I love to read memoirs and short essays/collections, environmental pieces, and realistic fiction. Some of my favorite writers are David Sedaris, Cheryl Strayed, and Jo Ann Beard. I've lived in Alaska for the past three years, after originally moving up to work with AmeriCorps at the Noel Wien Public Library. What was supposed to be one year of being in Alaska has turned in to much more, and I have no intention of leaving anytime soon.

I am a retired planetary geologist who is currently in my final year of my MFA in Creative Writing. My specialties include STEM, English required composition courses, and all creative writing endeavors.

I am a creative writing MFA student who specializes in creative nonfiction. I'm from Colorado, and I received a B.A. in Creative Writing and Journalism from Colorado College. I love writing personal essays, analyzing poetry, and getting to know people and their stories. I'd say I specialize in liberal arts-based subjects (with a particular interest in History), but I am always down to help with any type of writing! 

Hello! My name is Kiarra and I use she/her pronouns. I’m currently working on my MFA in Fiction, so I’m extremely excited to be in Fairbanks, Alaska. I was a Music BA at my prior college. If I were to name a specialty, it would be in this field. I’m also good at paragraph organization, essay structure, and big-idea clarification. I hope this gives you a general idea of my skill-set. I own a dog and two cats. The dog is named Mr. Buttons and he’s a menace. My cats are cats. They are well-behaved, but incredibly goblin-like. I enjoy hiking in my free time, writing, playing my violin. I love traveling as well. When I used to live in Reno, Nevada, I’d play my fiddle for wedding gigs all over. Truckee, Tahoe… I was even asked to play at Sequoia National Park once. How cool is that? I had to turn down the gig, unfortunately (an ungodly interference occurred), but I’m a bigger picture type of person anyway.

Levi has two years of experience at the Writing Center and specializes in helping you find places where you can trim or expand your writing, figure out ways of structuring your paper, or brainstorming if you're stumped. He can help with MLA and APA citations, working out an essay, or creative writing.

Hello and welcome to the Writing Center! My name is Maggie and I'm a speculative fiction writer and an MFA candidate in the Creative Writing program (Fiction track). I've been writing since I was maybe six years old (although my grammar and spelling have improved quite a bit since then). My specialty is speculative fiction, but I am also well-versed in academic writing, professional writing, resume review and design, marketing copy, advertising copy, and more. I look forward to working with you soon!

I have been a tutor in some capacity for over seventeen years. Whatever you bring to me, we can craft at least one question or advance one step of the writing process and move you closer to comfort and success on (and with) the page. Hi! I'm Rachel McKinley, and I'm excited about working with you at the UAF Writing Center. I've been working in writing and editing for over 15 years and love the variety of texts we get to work with on campus.

I am originally from Iowa, but lived many years in Oregon, and have studied and worked abroad in Russia, China, Korea, and Rwanda. I have an M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literature from University of Washington, and am in my third year pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing. My main genre is fiction, but I dabble in all genres. My fiction tends to be humorous and contain absurd and bizarre elements. I have experience writing academically about literature, linguistics, and history.

I write; I am somewhat good at it. I received my BFA from The University of Wisconsin in 2023. I am a current graduate student at UAF where I am working towards a combined MFA/MA. I specialize in poetry and essay writing.
