chancellor-from
July 10, 2020

UAF community,

After former UA President Jim Johnsen’s resignation last month, the Board of Regents announced that they would appoint an interim president by July 15. Since then they have been collecting feedback from internal and external stakeholders to include applications and nominations.

Late yesterday I was notified that I was nominated to serve as interim president. I am humbled by the nomination. After giving it careful thought, I agreed to participate in the next phase of the process so that if selected, I could provide systemwide leadership and stability over the coming months. The BOR will begin interviewing five candidates today and will announce an interim president selection early next week.

My heart is in providing stable leadership for the university. If selected to serve as interim president, I would appoint an interim chancellor for the period of system-level service. I would look forward to returning as UAF’s chancellor when a permanent president is found. The interim president position is temporary and will likely last between six and 18 months.

The other candidates announced today are excellent leaders, and I would look forward to working with any one of them in their capacity as interim president or mine.

Thank you for choosing UAF.

— Dan White, chancellor
